The 40-Day Sanfu Season: Reishi Traditions

04 Aug 2026

Today marks Rufu, the beginning of the traditional Sanfu period (the “dog days of summer”) — a time recognized in Chinese seasonal traditions for its intense heat and humidity. Unlike the 30-day Sanfu period in 2025, this year’s Sanfu season lasts 40 days.

Sanfu Calendar

Early Fu (Chufu): July 15 – July 24 (10 days)
Middle Fu (Zhongfu): July 25 – August 13 (20 days)
Late Fu (Mofu): August 14 – August 23 (10 days)

In traditional Chinese culture, Sanfu is a seasonal period when people often pay attention to daily habits, food choices, and lifestyle practices that align with the rhythms of summer.

One traditional ingredient associated with wellness traditions is Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum). Reishi has been used for generations in East Asian traditional practices and is commonly enjoyed as part of a balanced lifestyle.

Early Fu: Embracing Summer Traditions

During the early Sanfu period, many people enjoy light, seasonal foods and beverages as part of their summer routines. Reishi can be paired with traditional ingredients such as chrysanthemum flowers for a flavorful tea experience.

Middle Fu: Traditional Seasonal Foods

The middle period of Sanfu is often associated with the hottest and most humid days of summer. During this time, traditional food practices often emphasize nourishing meals, hydration, and enjoyable seasonal ingredients.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
